AN EPITAPH.
Here Fanny lies interr'd; ah! why,
Ye Gods, was Fanny born to die?
A female Fanny was, 'tis true,
But yet no females arts she knew;
No visits she receiv'd, or pay'd,
Nor ever stroll'd to masquerade;
Court, opera, park, and play and ball--
The prudent Fanny scorn'd them all.
. . . [22 lines, Fanny was a "harmless fawn."]
